UC Irvine Doctoral Candidate to Speak on Birthright Citizenship at Redlands AAUW Brunch
Zoe Miller-Vedam will explore the historical narratives and policy debates surrounding pregnant immigrants and inclusion in the U.S. and Canada.

REDLANDS, Calif. — Zoe Miller-Vedam, a doctoral candidate in sociology at UC Irvine, will discuss the impact of birthright citizenship and immigrant perinatal health rights at the Redlands branch of the American Association of University Women’s (AAUW) brunch meeting on Saturday, March 1.
Her talk, titled “Giving Birth to Citizens: Pregnant Immigrants and the Fight for Inclusion,” will examine historical narratives portraying pregnant immigrants as a societal threat and how evolving laws on maternity care affect both immigrants and society.

She holds master's degrees in demographic and social analysis and international human rights law. Her current doctoral research explores the implications of birthright citizenship in the U.S. and Canada, a topic gaining renewed attention due to recent policy debates.
The event begins at 10 a.m. in the Casa Loma Room at the University of Redlands. Community members may attend the presentation for free, with no reservation required.
