REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands City Council has given the green light to partner with a local motel to provide temporary housing services.
The Redlands City Council unanimously approved an agreement with Swami Suigi Investment Incorporated, doing business as Super 8 Redlands, on Tuesday, April 2, for an amount not to exceed $66,300.
Why it matters: The contact with the owner of Super 8 Redlands, located at 1160 Arizona Street, underscores the city's ongoing efforts to tackle chronic homelessness while also working with Redlands-based businesses.
Details: The partnership will provide emergency motel rooms for homeless individuals and families as-needed. These accommodations will range from one to seven nights, offering temporary relief while permanent housing can be arranged, David Rabindranath, the city of Redlands homeless solutions manager, told City Council on Tuesday.
Funding for the contract comes from the recent award of $4,529,069 from the state's Encampment Resolution Funding Program. This funding will serve about 200 homeless individuals living within encampments located along the Interstate 10 and 210 freeways, Highway 38 and the Santa Ana River Basin, according to a city staff report.
Nearly $3.5M of the funds were allocated to local agencies in December 2023 to provide street outreach, shelter, housing navigation, rapid rehousing, permanent housing, and hotel vouchers.
Rabindranath explained the funding agreement with Swami Shriji Investment Inc. follows the council's request to identify more local partnerships.
