Suspect was released after questioning at the scene, police say.
UPDATE 8:45pm – Police have released new details about an altercation that escalated into gunfire in the area of Redlands Boulevard and New York Street in Redlands.
A 40-year-old man was critically wounded following a confrontation that erupted into gunfire on W Park Avenue, south of Redlands Boulevard, around 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to a press release from the Redlands Police Department.
Eyewitnesses and law enforcement officials say that it started when the victim engaged in a confrontation with the suspect. A fight broke out that led to a series of shots being fired by the suspect. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to the hospital and listed in critical but stable condition, according to police.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and questioned. Police found that the individual was lawfully in possession of the firearm used in the incident. Following the interrogation, authorities retained possession of the weapon but released the suspect from custody pending further investigation.
A report will be given to the District Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be filed.
REDLANDS, Calif. | 4/5 4:00 p.m. – Redlands Police are investigating a shooting at a business Friday afternoon.
Police say the shooting happened at 1:30 p.m. on April 5 at a business at Redlands Boulevard and New York Street. A helicopter could be seen circling the area with multiple police and fire trucks parked at West Park Avenue.
The only suspect remained on the scene and is being questioned, police say. A gun was also recovered from the scene.
The victim was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition, according to police.
