Shawn Jones kicks off Smiley LIVE! Season with memorable performance

REDLANDS — A.K. Smiley Public Library’s Smiley LIVE! concert series launched its 2025 season with a dynamic performance by Southern California musician Shawn Jones on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Redlands Contemporary Club.

Jones, celebrated for his soulful Americana sound and commanding stage presence, delivered a memorable evening blending roots, blues, and rock. Showcasing songs from his seven albums and demonstrated why he remains a standout artist in the music world.

The Southern California native built his career on determination and hard work, booking his own shows, organizing tours from his home office, and growing a loyal audience through relentless touring. His passion for music began early, harmonizing with his late father, Danny Jones, and honing his craft from a young age.

Inspired by icons like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, and Hank Williams Sr., Jones has developed a unique style that reflects his appreciation for powerful lyrics and heartfelt performances.

Jones’ career highlights include sharing stages with legendary artists like B.B. King, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Derek Trucks, Robben Ford, Joe Bonamassa, and many others. And he was also managed by the late Waylon Jennings, who invited him to play lead guitar in his road band, performing at high-profile events such as the Lollapalooza Tour with Metallica and Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic.

Whether performing acoustic sets that highlight his intricate guitar work and soulful voice or leading full-band shows, Jones consistently delivers unforgettable live experiences.

“It’s the music business,” Jones said in a recent interview. “As an independent artist, there are plenty of highs and lows. You do it because it’s a calling. Fame often comes down to luck and timing, and it takes a lot of money to break through and establish an artist.”
