Redlands survey results: Praise for cultural offerings, confidence in local government drops
Only 2% of the adult population in Redlands responded to the annual community survey.
The Planning Commission, Traffic and Parking Commission, Library Board, Cultural Arts Commission and Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission are seeking applicants.
Opening: Volunteer position on the city of Redlands Cultural Arts Commission.
What they do: The Cultural Arts Commission promotes public interest in the arts through recommending new arts programs, sourcing funding and developing the arts scene in Redlands, including advising the city council in the administration of the “Art in Public Places” program.
Time commitment: The commission meets bi-monthly on the second Monday of odd-numbered months at 4 p.m.

Opening: Volunteer position on the Redlands Planning Commission.
What they do: The Planning Commission prepares a long term general plan for the physical development of the City. Responsibilities include making recommendations to city council relating to zoning administration, environmental assessments, city plan and architectural review, subdivision planning, sign, parking and landscaping regulations, housing and historic preservation.
Time commitment: The commission meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m.

Opening: Volunteer position on the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission
What they do: The Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission works to promote public interest in historical and scenic properties in Redlands and their preservation.
Time commitment: The commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

Opening: Volunteer position on the Library Board of Trustees
What they do: The board supports the library’s growth and oversees the rules, management and protection of the library. Since 1922, the trustees have also managed an endowment fund, providing income to enhance library programs, resources and overall quality.
Time commitment: The Library Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m.

Opening: Volunteer position on the Traffic and Parking Commission
What they do: The Commission carries on educational activities in traffic matters, supervises the preparation and publication of traffic reports, receives complaints relating to traffic matters, and recommends to the City Council ways and means of improving traffic conditions and the administration and enforcement of traffic regulations. This commission also advises the City Council on the development of adequate parking for commercial and retail uses, - recommends policies to encourage, develop and support adequate parking within the City, recommends actions for the establishment of long-term parking plans for the City and, in particular, the Downtown Redlands Business Area, and advises the City Council in the administration of resources for the development of parking. The Commission may also assist other advisory groups such as the Planning Commission in matters relating to parking.
Time commitment: The Traffic and Parking Commission meets bi-monthly on the fourth Thursday of odd-numbered months at 6 p.m.
