REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police made several arrests in connection with violent incidents, DUI-related crashes and weapons charges over the past week, according to a department report.
Shots fired downtown: Police arrested a man early Sunday, March 2, after gunfire erupted inside a downtown parking structure, leaving several bullet holes in the outer wall of a City Hall building.
Officers responded to the top level of the parking structure at Citrus Avenue and Fifth Street, where bystanders pointed out a white Kia SUV. The driver and four passengers were removed from the vehicle as a crowd gathered, prompting the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to assist with crowd control.
Police searched the vehicle and recovered a handgun, an empty magazine and nearly a dozen spent shell casings, authorities said. Investigators also found multiple bullet holes in a nearby City Hall building.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm and driving under the influence. No injuries were reported.
Domestic violence and vandalism: Officers arrested a suspect Tuesday, March 4, after he allegedly assaulted a victim and shattered the windows of a family member’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. The suspect later got into a fight with a clerk at a liquor store on the 1500 block of Orange Street and punched out the windshield of a vehicle in the parking lot, police said. Officers found him in the parking lot and took him into custody on charges of domestic violence, vandalism and an outstanding warrant. The victims of the assault and vandalism at the liquor store declined to press charges.
DUI-related crash left a motorcyclist injured. The incident happened late Friday, Feb. 28, near Alabama Street and Lugonia Avenue. Police said a driver struck the motorcyclist and fled the scene, but a witness followed the suspect until officers were able to conduct a traffic stop. The motorcyclist was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run.
In another traffic-related incident, a bicyclist suffered minor injuries Thursday, Feb. 27, after a vehicle struck her near Redlands Boulevard and Fern Avenue. The driver remained at the scene, and no citations have been issued, police said.
Police are also investigating a stabbing after a liquor store clerk reported that a man entered the store on Orange Street saying he had been stabbed in the arm. Officers later found a crime scene nearby, and the victim was treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound to the shoulder at Redlands Community Hospital.
Authorities urge anyone with information on these incidents to contact the Redlands Police Department.
