Redlands Police make arrest in case of couple missing from nudist ranch

62-year-old neighbor held on murder charges as authorities prepare to search for bodies of Dan and Stephanie Menard

UPDATE 08/30 4:20 pm: Human remains were discovered in a bunker beneath the home of the sole suspect in connection with the disappearance of a Redlands couple from a nudist resort. A concrete bunker-like space, approximately 5 feet deep, was found under the suspect's property. Fire department personnel, certified in confined space operations, entered the area to remove bags of evidence on Friday, Aug. 30. Read more here.


REDLANDS, Calif. – A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a Redlands couple as authorities prepare to search for their bodies.

Michael Royce Sparks was arrested Thursday night on murder charges and booked at West Valley Detention Center, according to Redlands Police.

The arrest is linked to the disappearance of Daniel Menard, 79, and Stephanie Menard, 73, who went missing from a nudist community in the 26000 block of Keissel Road on Aug. 24. The Menards' small white Shih Tzu named Cuddles is also missing.
