Redlands Footlighters Theatre brings mystery and holiday cheer through its December production, A Sherlock Carol.

Mark Shanahan's comedy, directed by Cindi East, blends elements of a Dickensian Christmas tale with the intrigue of a Sherlock Holmes mystery.

"Our patrons love mysteries and classics like Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes," Katharine Buffy Henshaw, treasurer of Redlands Footlighters Theatre, said. "When we found this adaptation that mixes Sherlock Holmes and the Dickens Christmas Carol together in the same story, we thought, 'Oh my gosh, this is a match made in heaven for our community,'" Henshaw said.

The story follows a jaded Sherlock Holmes who is called upon by Tiny Tim to investigate Ebenezer Scrooge's mysterious death. The ensemble cast brings this unique holiday tale to life, offering a delightful mix of mystery and seasonal cheer.

To further enhance the holiday spirit, Footlighters is collecting clothes and donations from theatergoers to support YouthHope, a local non-profit organization dedicated to assisting at-risk and homeless youth ages 14 to 24.

"Our holiday gift drive is an opportunity for us to give back as an organization," Henshaw said. "Our history is rooted in philanthropy and non-profit work here in the Redlands community, and this drive allows us to leverage our patronage to raise awareness for underserved communities."

The Hope for the Holidays drive focuses on collecting lightweight hoodies in youth sizes, non-perishable food goods, and donations to support youth training workshops. The monetary contributions will go toward purchasing incentives for workshop participants, such as gift cards.

Footlighters is collecting donations in the theatre lobby (1810 Barton Road) and online through a Square. Cash donations are also accepted, and alternative drop-off times can be arranged by contacting the theatre's box office at (909) 793-2909.

Performances run Dec. 6 -22 at the Redlands Footlighters Theatre, with ticket information and showtimes available here.

Patrons are encouraged to enjoy the show and support the gift drive to make a positive impact in the community this holiday season.
