REDLANDS, Calif. – A proposed distribution warehouse and logistics facility at a former water park site will be considered by Redlands City Council during a public hearing next week.
Los Angeles-based developer North Palisade Partners will present plans for a 357,610-square-foot distribution warehouse at 1101 California St. during the City Council Meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16.
Why it matters: Last month, the Redlands Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council deny the proposal due to concerns over the impact of traffic at the proposed location and the need for a more diverse range of developments.
During the June 11 public hearing, more than 80 public comments were submitted opposing the warehouse development, expressing concerns about increased air pollution, traffic congestion, the decline in warehousing demand, and the project's potential negative impact on the city's character.
The project requires final review and approval by the City Council because it is part of the East Valley Corridor Specific Plan. A resolution passed in 1994 determined that Planned Development entitlements in this area are "quasi-legislative." This means that the Planning Commission can recommend that the City Council deny the project, but it's ultimately up to the City Council to approve or deny the project.
On Tuesday, the City Council will decide if the project moves forward.
