Service interruptions affect key stations in Redlands and San Bernardino due to police activity. Limited operations continue between the University of Redlands and Downtown Redlands. Northbound California Street is also closed.
The Redlands Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its 6th Annual Dog Jog on Oct. 20, 2024. This event brings together dog lovers and their furry friends for a day of fun, fitness, and community spirit.
Why it matters: This year’s Dog Jog promises a day packed with activities for all ages and their four-legged companions. Additionally, 50% of ticket sales will benefit the Redlands Animal Shelter.
Last year, the event raised $2,500 to support the shelter, and organizers hope to double that amount this year.
Details: The jog starts at Ed Hales Park on State Street at 10:00 a.m. and ends at the A.K. Smiley Public Library, where participants can enjoy free activities, including:
Warm-up/Yoga with The Energy Lab
K-9 Unit demonstrations from local police departments
A dog agility course set up by Zoom Room
A hot dog catching contest sponsored by Dawgs 4 Dogs
One of the main attractions is the Canine Costume Contest. Local businesses have donated six prize baskets for categories including Top Dog (best overall), Most Creative, Funniest, Best Duo/Group, Spookiest, and Judges' Choice.
The event also features an Adoptable Dog Parade, showcasing dogs from local shelters, including the Redlands Animal Shelter and REDlands Friends Of Shelter Animals (REDFOSA). It's a great opportunity for people to consider adopting a pet.
Food vendors such as Dawgs 4 Dogs, Viva La Boba, Lappert's Super Premium Ice Cream, Landmark Roasters coffee, and Ember Woodfired Pizza will be there with snacks for both humans and dogs.
What they're saying: "The event fosters a sense of community by bringing together residents, dog owners, and animal lovers," said Evan Sanford, executive director of the Redlands Chamber of Commerce. "It’s a fun way for people to connect and celebrate their love for pets."
Sanford also noted that the event promotes healthy lifestyles for both dogs and their owners while raising awareness about animal rescue and adoption.
"It goes to show the business community can support the greater community through worthwhile initiatives that are unique and enhance the overall economic health of the area," said Sanford.
Ticket Information: Tickets cost $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
Participant check-in is available on Oct. 18 and 19 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at the Chamber office or at the event on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 9:00 a.m.
Upon check-in, participants will receive a bag with a shirt, bandana, dog toy, treats, and a water bottle.
