Man dies after heart attack on freeway offramp; Police investigate burglaries, vandalism in weekly update

REDLANDS, Calif. (March 28, 2025) — A man died after suffering a heart attack while exiting Interstate 10 in Redlands on Wednesday, according to the Redlands Police Department's weekly update.

First responders from the Redlands Police and Fire departments and the California Highway Patrol were called to the California Street offramp the morning of March 26, where they found the driver unresponsive inside his vehicle. A CHP officer broke a window to remove him from the car. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Preliminary investigation suggests the man experienced a heart attack as he exited the freeway.

In another incident, a driver who reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel late Monday night, March 24, missed a curve while heading west on Industrial Park Avenue and crashed into three new vehicles in the parking lot of Tom Bell Chevrolet. No injuries were reported.

Redlands Police also responded to two burglary investigations early Monday morning.

In the 1300 block of East Pioneer Avenue, a commercial property owner called police shortly after midnight after spotting an intruder. Officers found a hole cut into a storage shed and items stacked outside. The owner later confirmed that more than $1,000 in property was missing.

In a separate case around 12:30 a.m. that same morning, officers responded to a residential alarm in the 1300 block of Pacific Street after a neighbor called 911. Police arrived to find a shattered sliding glass door at the back of the home. The resident was awakened by the alarm but reported that no property appeared to have been taken.

Police are also investigating after more than 100 envelopes containing potential hate speech and anti-government messages were discovered attached to street signs and poles along Redlands Boulevard from Ford Street to Texas Street and on several nearby side streets. Officers and city crews removed the materials.
