REDLANDS, Calif. – A man armed with a machete and paintball rifle is in custody after causing chaos in Redlands Wednesday morning.

The incident unfolded around 8:30 am Dec. 4 when police responded to reports of an argument between a couple on Paiute Avenue, Redlands police said.

By the time officers arrived, the male suspect had fled on foot. Witnesses reported the man was armed with a machete and breaking windows.

Officers spotted the man near Lugonia Avenue and Judson Street, wearing a tactical vest with what appeared to be a rifle strapped across his chest. The weapon later turned out to be a paintball gun.

As a precaution, nearby Judson and Brown Elementary School was placed on lockdown.

Despite initially resisting arrest, the suspect was eventually taken into custody with minor injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.

The police have not released the man's identity or potential charges at this time.
