REDLANDS, Calif. – The City Council approved a new position in the city's Homeless Solutions Division during its meeting Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The new Community Outreach Specialist position was approved for an 18-month period. The position aims to enhance outreach services to the homeless community, connecting individuals with resources such as shelter, transitional housing, food assistance, and mental health counseling.

Funding for the position comes from a $50,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente of Southern California Region. Additional funds from the Homeless Solutions Division budget will be used to cover the balance of $103,087.

The new specialist will work alongside local nonprofit and government entities to address homelessness in the city.

The Homeless Solutions Division is responsible for connecting persons experiencing homelessness in the City with appropriate resources.

City Council also approved a one-year contract with HCI Environmental & Engineering Service for "homeless encampment general clean-up services."

The contract is for one year and does not exceed $80,000.

The city reviewed bids on May 14, 2024 and determined HCI Environmental & Engineering Service was the lowest responsible and responsive bidder.
