How do you define the role you're seeking as a Redlands City Treasurer?

Simply put, the Redlands Treasurer oversees the investments of the City of Redlands. The city of Redlands contracts with Valu-Trac Administration Services (VTAS), the city's preferred investment management firm, to manage the Redlands Equity Portfolio.

I believe the City Treasurer comments, voices concern, and asks questions to VTAS regarding financial reports for the City's financial assets, investments, and cash flow.  The position demands transparency, vigilance, and accountability in the oversight of public funds.

If elected, I would oversee the City's investments, safeguard financial resources, and ensure the City's current investment policy adheres to legal requirements. My goal is to foster a relationship of trust with the community by providing precise and accessible financial information to all residents, something I feel is missing today.

What are your three priority areas?

If elected, my priorities will be:

  1. Financial Transparency and Accountability: I aim to make the City's financial information accessible to residents. This includes enhancing communication practices and making information about City funds, investments, and expenditures easier to understand and locate.
  2. Prudent Financial Management: I plan to apply conservative principles to safeguard public funds while identifying the best possible investment returns for the city. This involves working with staff and VTAS and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and policies.
  3. Community Engagement: Strengthening the connection between the Treasurer’s Office and the public is a key focus of my campaign. I aim to introduce new avenues for residents to ask questions, share their concerns, and actively participate in shaping the City’s financial strategies and decisions.
