REDLANDS, Calif. — Firefighters swiftly extinguished a blaze at a single-story apartment building on East Central Avenue Thursday afternoon, Dec. 26, after a Redlands Fire Department captain spotted smoke while returning from an emergency call.
Crews arrived on the scene shortly before 12:30 p.m., prior to any 911 calls, and initiated an exterior attack. Additional units launched an aggressive interior response, containing the fire to a single room and its contents.
The apartment's tenants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. Crews rescued a dog and freed several cats from the building. No injuries were reported.
The fire, which caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, was extinguished within 15 minutes. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 90 minutes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
