REDLANDS, Calif. – The Redlands City Council on Feb. 4 approved several key measures, including city support for an upcoming community race, security services for Redlands Passenger Rail stations, and a multimillion-dollar pedestrian and bike trail project.

Meeting highlights: The meeting opened with the Student Lighthouse Team of Bryn Mawr Elementary School leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The Redlands Fire Department introduced Fae the Fire Dog, and the City Council invited Black Student Union representatives from each of the high schools in the Redlands Unified School District to attend and receive copies of a proclamation declaring February as Black History Month.

Run Through Redlands: Council members voted unanimously to approve the use of city resources and in-kind support valued at $40,612 for the annual Run Through Redlands, scheduled for March 2 and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Redlands. The approval also allows temporary street closures and the sale and consumption of alcohol during the event.

Transit Security: The council also approved an agreement with Citiguard to provide security for the Redlands Passenger Rail stations located on Orange Street in downtown Redlands and at the University of Redlands. The agreement covers an initial one-year term for up to $345,000, with the option to extend for an additional year, bringing the total cost to $690,000. Security guards will be on-site daily, from 15 minutes before the first train arrives until 15 minutes after the last train departs. Security at the New York Street station will be funded by Esri.

Pedestrian and Bike Safety: Pedestrians and cyclists will soon have a safer way to travel on Orange Street in north Redlands following the City Council's approval of a segment of the Redlands Regional Connector South Pedestrian and Bike Trail Project. Read more here.

ADA Ramp Replacements: The council approved a contract of up to $500,000 with Tryco General Engineering for sidewalk and ADA ramp replacements in various parts of the city. The project will replace approximately two miles of damaged sidewalks and install 18 ADA-compliant curb ramps at various locations to improve accessibility and safety.

The council also approved a contract of up to $332,500 with N2W Engineering, Inc. to evaluate, engineer, and permit expansions to the city's recycled and non-potable water distribution system.

Additional Updates: The council received a report from Mayor Pro Tem Marc Shaw on his attendance at the 2025 League of California Cities Mayors and Council Members Academy and annual reports from the Citrus Preservation Commission and the Street Tree Committee.

In a 3-2 vote, with Council Members Paul Barich and Denise Davis opposed, the council directed staff to develop a policy on city recognition of groups and individuals, such as proclamations and other recognition items.
