Lockdown was lifted after police investigation finds no weapon; increased security presence maintained as precaution
REDLANDS, Calif. – Citrus Valley High School was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after reports of a student potentially possessing a gun on campus. The threat was later determined to be unfounded, according to the Redlands Police Department.
The lockdown was initiated during the second period when the Redlands Police Department School Resource Officer and school administration received the report, police said in a post on its School Safety Updates announcement board.
Parents were notified of the lockdown around 10:15 a.m. via the Aries message system.
Redlands Police responded immediately, with multiple units arriving on campus. The student in question was quickly identified and contacted.
A thorough search was conducted, including the use of a Redlands Police weapons detection K9 unit. No weapon was located, police announced Thursday afternoon.
"Based on the search and information provided during the investigation, it was determined that there is no credible threat to Citrus Valley High School," Police officials stated.
The lockdown lasted through second period and part of third period before being lifted. Students were then released to passing period and their third period classes.
As a precautionary measure, the school remained in "Safe and Secure" mode while the investigation was completed, limiting student traffic on campus.
During the Safe & Secure mode, classes continue as usual with a "heightened vigilance on campus by all school staff," according to the school district emergency safety protocol. In addition, perimeter gates are locked and monitored, activities are moved inside, and available staff are present during passing periods and student dismissal.
Citrus Valley High School requested additional safety officers and Redlands Police Department officers to support the supervision of students during passing and lunch periods for the remainder of the day, according to police.
Two weeks ago, on Aug. 22, 2024, Moore Middle School was placed on lockdown while police investigated a possible weapon on campus. The threat was unfounded.
Updates and information about campus safety issues are posted on the Police Department's School Safety Updates web page.
