REDLANDS, Calif. — Hundreds of young museum goers got up close and personal with centipedes, tarantulas and beetles at San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday for the first day of Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest.
The two-day event, running March 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., transforms the Redlands museum into a buzzing hub of insect-themed exploration, featuring live bug exhibits, art, expert talks and hands-on fun for the whole family. Organizers expect thousands of attendees over the weekend.
“We are thrilled to bring Arthropolooza back and offer a deeper look into the fascinating world of insects,” said Dr. Mackenzie Kirchner-Smith, curator of integrated biology. “Insects are often overlooked, but they are vital to our ecosystem. Through this event, we hope to inspire visitors to develop a greater appreciation for these tiny creatures and the important roles they play.”
Guests can expect a wide range of creepy and captivating experiences, including up-close encounters with beetles, spiders and butterflies, an insect-themed art exhibit, and educational demonstrations led by entomologists and conservationists.
Among the most popular attractions is the Flutterby Ranch butterfly zone, open from 1 to 4 p.m. each day, offering an immersive and interactive experience designed to highlight the delicate beauty and ecological importance of butterflies.
In addition to science and nature programming, visitors can enjoy face painting, outdoor art activities, food vendors and a selection of local artisan goods.
