Vara is a school board candidate with 30 years of experience in education. Raised in South-Central Los Angeles and now a resident of Highland for 25 years, he and his wife have three children. With the support of his parents, Vara overcame early academic struggles and now serves as a Middle School Principal and School Board Member. He is committed to providing students with opportunities to reach their full potential.

What do you love most about Redlands?
There are many things to love about Redlands, including its history, culture and especially our community.
How do you define the role you’re seeking as a RUSD School Board member?
As a current school board member I make decisions that are in the best interest of all students and in compliance with state laws and board policies. I also maintain transparency while monitoring and evaluating the achievement of the goals we create to improve academics.
If re-elected, what would be your top three priorities as a RUSD School Board member?
Increase student safety protocols, quality education and enhanced technology integration.

As a middle school principal and CSUSB professor, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of public education.

With highly qualified teachers fostering rigor and student achievement, Redlands Unified stands as an educational beacon in the Inland Empire. Let’s continue our journey, respecting and engaging all stakeholders. Together, we’ll shape a brighter future for our children and our community.
