REDLANDS, Calif. — The Lincoln Memorial Shrine marked Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on Saturday, Feb. 1, by hosting the 84th annual Lincoln Pilgrimage youth parade and its annual open house at Smiley Park.
The pilgrimage inspires youth to uphold the principles and virtues of President Abraham Lincoln and the nation’s founders. This year, more than 300 Boy Scouts from San Bernardino and Riverside counties participated, honoring Lincoln’s legacy. Meanwhile, the Shrine’s open house welcomed visitors to explore history through exhibits, activities, and live demonstrations.
Dedicated to deepening public understanding of President Lincoln, the American Civil War, and their lasting impact, the Shrine brings history to life through a variety of programs and events.
This year’s highlight was the unveiling of a new exhibition, “…That All Men Are Created Equal.” Featuring artifacts from the American Slavery Collection, the exhibit offered visitors a thought-provoking look at the nation’s challenging past.
The event also featured live music, Civil War reenactors, and interactive family activities. Among the most anticipated attractions was the 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, which thrilled audiences with hourly cannon fire demonstrations.
Adding to the historical atmosphere, President Lincoln presenter Robert Broski delivered a stirring recitation of the Gettysburg Address, bringing the words of the nation’s 16th president to life.
Other participants included the Sons of Union Veterans, Dr. Malarkey, and the Inland Empire LEGO User Group. The LEGO group’s ever-expanding Civil War battle scene remained a favorite among young attendees and history buffs alike.
The Lincoln Memorial Shrine’s annual open house has become a beloved community tradition, offering an engaging and educational experience for all ages while celebrating the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
